The award is named for Lucy Gorant (1942-2004), the 18th President of the BCWRC (2002 and 2003). She also served as a councilwoman in Norwood, legislative aide, freeholder aide and Vice Chairwoman of the Bergen County Republican Organization. Lucy initiated this award for the purpose of annually recognizing a Republican woman in Bergen County for her service to the Party. The original intent of the award was to honor those in the trenches, year after year, the unsung heroines of the Party. After Lucy’s death, the award was renamed the The Lucy Gorant Outstanding Republican Woman of the Year Award in her honor.

Membership in the BCWRC is not a prerequisite for nomination.
